Enfield Hockey Association
2010 - 2011 Season
Travel Team Tryouts Policies and Procedures
Revised February 2008

Because of the importance of a fair and impartial tryout process, the Enfield Hockey Association has implemented policies and procedures that govern our travel team tryouts.

1. Tryouts for travel teams for the following season shall be conducted at the conclusion of the current season.

2. A five-person travel selection committee will be chosen for each division, determine the tryout format, perform all evaluations and selections for all teams within that division. The committee will be comprised of two properly certified coaches, the division director, VP of player development and one impartial board member. All committee members shall not have a child or relative in that division. If for any reason there is a need to replace a committee member, the board of directors shall approve an impartial replacement selected by the division director.

3. The division director shall recommend the selection committee members to the EHA Board for approval prior to tryouts.

4. Committee members can individually consult and discuss player attributes with anyone they wish before or after a tryout session. However, under no circumstances will any person other than committee members be allowed to participate in the evaluation process or committee decisions. Should the need arise the VP of Administration and Rules may provide guidance to the committee or mediate irreconcilable differences.

5. Each committee member is given one vote to determine where each player belongs. In case where the committee does not have 100% agreement on the appropriate level of the player, the majority 3 out of 5 will rule.

6. Selection of players is limited to those who tryout. Players who do not tryout are limited to the lowest available travel team as roster space permits. In the event a player is unable to tryout due to extenuating circumstances they will be placed on the lowest available travel team and may be considered for a higher level travel team by approval of the same selection committee following an on ice evaluation.

7. Based on the number of applicants, the board of directors shall determine if there will be separate tryouts for those skaters wishing to tryout for the “A” travel teams in the Mite, Squirt, PeeWee and Bantam divisions. These “A” tryouts are designed to streamline the selection process by reducing the number of skaters on the ice at one time. This allows the selection committee to better evaluate each skater and provides the skaters with more opportunities to demonstrate their abilities. The “A” only tryouts are open to all skaters, but participation in the tryout should not be viewed as an opportunity for extra ice time.
If, in the opinion of the committee, a player does not demonstrate the skills necessary to compete at the “A” level, that player will not be invited back to the subsequent “A” tryout sessions. In Addition, that player may not receive as much ice time as a player who demonstrates “A” level skills.

8. Tryout sessions for the “B” and “C” levels will be held following the selection of the “A” team. Those players who tryout and are not selected to the “A” team will have the opportunity to tryout for the other teams within that division.

9. At the conclusion of the final tryout session the selection committee shall post on the EHA website each team’s players within 72 hours.
